School Library activities

In 2018, PRD has been working closely with school principals and librarians to strengthen the existing libraries that were inactive because there were shortage of books and materials and the librarians didn’t have enough skill to manage. The libraries are located in Prey Rumchek, Mean Chey and Doun Tret primary schools. The other five schools (2 schools in Samlout and 3 schools in Pailin) did not have libraries because there were not sufficient rooms in the schools. In 2019, These schools try to organize the classroom become a small library for students.

Mobile library activity

In 2018, PRD Education Program Manager cooperate with school principals and school support committee in VealThmea and Doun Tret to establish mobile library project in community by selected 2 women volunteer become librarian that run mobile library activities in community. PRD Education Program Manager conducted 3 days training to 3 mobile librarians and one school support committee. The training focus on:

  • Mobile library management
  • How to work and observer the children
  • Methods to lead mobile library
  • Produce games and materials
  • Reading/telling story methodology
  • Remedial methodology on mathematic and Khmer language

Conduct training/ Workshop to librarian

Since 2018 -2019, PRD conducted one half-day librarians meeting in Samlout and Pailin on:

  • How to use books in classroom
  • Using story books and tell stories in classroom and library
  • Strengthen on book management and maintenance

Reading club activities/meeting

Since 2018-2019 PRD supporting 5 reading clubs in Schools. Each school runs their reading club once a month. This project is aimed to help students to improve their reading skill, their thought, analyze the character in the books.
